Engaging children in modern Hebrew and Jewish culture is one of the most important factors in creating tomorrow’s Jewish participants – and leaders. Kesher was founded 26 years ago with a mission to become a center for Jewish learning and culture for children and families. Over the years, we have touched the lives of hundreds of children and families with our nationally recognized curriculum.

We’re asking you to help us build a Jewish future by supporting our Jewish learning classrooms and programs with your tax-deductible donation. Tuition alone does not cover our operational costs, and grants from foundations only make up a portion of the gap. It’s not enough.

Now, Kesher’s unique model speaks more than ever to Boston North’s growing number of Jewish families, and we truly need your help in furthering our mission. Please consider Kesher in your year-end tax-deductible donations

This year at Kesher, our project-based curriculum let students learn about:

  • Community: Students used their local park (closed for lead testing) to learn about community activism, making signs, and marching at city hall in support of the park and, ultimately, being invited to speak with the mayor

  • Hebrew: Students learned about food and created a Hebrew-speaking misadah (restaurant), complete with menus, waiters, kitchen staff, and cashier.

  • Integrating Judaism and Life: Students learned about an astronaut who brought a Torah into space; they built a rocket ship, learned about planets, drew constellations, and took a trip to the Museum of Science to see the new space exhibit

  • Cooperation: Students were given the Talmudic requirements for a Sukkah and then built one from recycled materials

  • Creativity: Students were given Latke ingredients – without recipes – and worked together to experiment and create their own.

We leverage our methodology, knowledge, and networks to serve the needs of a diverse and expanding Jewish community in the Somerville/Cambridge/Arlington area with full-time preschool and after school programs.

This past year, Kesher:

  • Hired a highly-experienced After School director

  • Enrolled the largest class in the Preschool’s history

  • Joined our programs in one location and created new opportunities for interaction

  • Celebrated successful community gatherings: a Purim carnival, Shabbat dinners, Havdalah gatherings, and a Hanukkah party

We count on individuals like you to make up the remaining 6% of our budget this year. You can directly contribute to a more engaged generation of Jewish youth by contributing now to Kesher.
